Intern Spotlight - Austin Harries

Jul 10, 2023

Meet Austin Harries! This summer Austin is an operations intern located in Odell, NE.

Where are you from?
I went to high school in Marysville, KS and live north of Herkimer, KS.

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?
I go to school at Southeast Community College- Beatrice and major in Precision Agriculture and Agricultural Management and Production.

Why did you choose to be an intern with Farmers Cooperative?
I chose to be an intern with Farmers Cooperative because I previously worked for the company part-time while I was going to college, and I liked the company and how things operate. Working in Odell is also closer to home, so it just worked out for me.

What are some of your day-to-day activities?
Some of my day-to-day tasks are helping customers get whatever they need to run a successful operation. As well as loading tender trucks and trailers and just keeping chemicals stocked and ready to go for when they are needed.

What is one thing that you've learned so far this summer?
I've learned a lot about chemicals and what you can spray when and where this summer. I've also learned about what you are looking for to identify and help get rid of certain weeds as well as what could be used to benefit different crops.

What has been your favorite part of your internship thus far?
Some of my favorite things about my internship so far as been getting to go see different locations and meet new people, and just getting to see all of the different sides of the cooperative system.

What is a fun fact about yourself?
I like to hunt and fish in my free time.

What would be your dream job, or what is a job you plan on pursuing post-graduation?
A dream job would be professional fisherman, but that's not going to happen. I'm not sure exactly what I want to do after I graduate college yet.
