Intern Spotlight - Nathan King

Jul 25, 2024

Get to know Nathan King! He’s from Clarinda, IA, and is this summer’s grain operations intern out of Dorchester, NE.

Nathan is studying Agricultural Science at Concordia University.

Why did you choose to intern with Farmers Cooperative and why did you choose grain operations?
I chose Farmers Cooperative because I liked the atmosphere of the company. I chose grain operations because my dad hauls grain for a living and I have always been around grain, just have never seen this side of it.

What has been the best part of your internship so far?
The best part so far is a toss-up between driving the locomotive and being on top of the train. I’m most excited to understand the maze and start getting to move grain around myself.

Day-to-day activities in your role:
When we’re moving grain, I’m making sure things aren’t plugging, and if they are, then fixing that and cleaning up messes. Outside of grain, I’ve helped with pickups and I’ll do some basic upkeep around here, like mowing.

Post-graduation Plans:
I’ll graduate in May 2027, and I’m still working out plans for after college.

Fun Fact:
My favorite animal is an otter.
