Intern Spotlight - Tyler Walford

Jul 23, 2024

Get to know Tyler Walford! He’s from Lincoln, KS, and is this summer’s agronomy operations intern out of Milford, NE.

Tyler is majoring in Agricultural Science at Concordia University.

Why did you choose to intern with Farmers Cooperative and why did you choose agronomy operations?
I chose to intern with Farmers Cooperative because I started part-time this spring, so when they offered me a summer internship, I took it. Overall, it’s a good place to work and it’s close to home. I chose agronomy because that’s what I want to find a job in after college.

What has been the best part of your internship so far?
The best part so far is getting to know everyone I work with, as well as the farmers in the area. I’m excited to see how my project over soils and how synthetic fertilizers and chemicals affect the soil turns out.

Day-to-day activities in your role:
My daily tasks include shuffling chemical around, getting loads ready for farmers, loading dry fertilizer, spraying weeds, and mowing the lawn. I have a research project over soils to understand how synthetic fertilizers and chemicals affect the soil, so I pull soil samples and do soil tests to get these results.

Post-graduation Plans:
I’ll graduate in December 2024. After that, I plan on moving to Fairbury with my wife and continuing to work for Farmers Cooperative or another ag business.

Fun Fact:
I like to hunt and fish.
