Intern Spotlight - Seth Wright

Jul 14, 2023

Meet Seth Wright! This summer Seth is an agronomy operations intern located in Milford, NE

Where are you from?
I am from Petersburg, NE.

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?
I am a junior at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, studying Agribusiness Management with minors in Agricultural Economics and the Engler Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Program.

Why did you choose to be an intern with Farmers Cooperative?
I have an inter in sales going forward in my life. When you talk to people about getting sales internships, they want you to have an operations internship under your belt, that's what brought me to a cooperative. Farmers Cooperative was one of the places that I had an interest in and applied to be able to get some hands-on experience and learn stuff.

What are some of your day-to-day activities?
Being an operations intern you could be doing anything from loading up the bed of someone's pickup with chemicals to performing maintenance on equipment. Usually, when I get to work, I head to the chemical shed to help load tender trucks with chemicals and water and see if there is anything else that I need to get ready to load out. I also help write out ticket to help keep good inventory and to keep track of what each farmer is getting. Now that we're done spraying, we've been doing maintenance, cleaning sheds, and making sure that everything is still in good condition. That is most of my day-to-day tasks.

What is one thing that you've learned so far this summer?
I've never really been around the agronomy side of agriculture, while being an operations intern, I've gotten to learn a lot about what chemicals get sprayed on what. As well as different measures to take and different applications to use when spraying and using herbicides. I've learned a lot on the chemical side of things that I didn't know before working at Farmers Cooperative.

What has been your favorite part of your internship thus far?
My favorite part of my internship so far has been the people that I work with. It's always nice to have comedic relief and be able to have a little bit of fun while still staying on task and getting all of our work done. I like to have a little bit of fun in my work and have really enjoyed that side of things because it can get monotonous if it's just the same thing everyday without a whole lot of interaction. The most fun for me is getting to build that relationship with my colleagues.

What is a fun fact about yourself?
I do woodworking as a side hustle and have recently started getting into that and enjoy learning as I go.

What would be your dream job, or what is a job you plan on pursuing post-graduation?
Post graduation I will try and get into sales, hopefully agriculture, but if it takes me somewhere else that is okay too. Long term I am hoping to have a career house flipping and buying and renovating houses to resell or something along those lines.
